Welcome to Tutorial Part One of the Railroads Online series. If you’ve ever launched the game and wondered, “How do I even make my locomotive go from nothing?” this guide is for you. In this episode, we’ll walk you through every essential step: gathering fuel (either firewood or coal, depending on the locomotive type), topping up your water supply, igniting the firebox, building up steam pressure, and using the correct throttle, reverser, and regulator settings to get your engine rolling.
We’ll also show you where to find water towers and coal/fuel depots, and why the boiler and firebox must be primed before you even move. Whether you’re brand new or trying to polish up your cold-start technique, by the end of this you'll feel confident getting your engine fully operational from zero.
Stay tuned for Part Two, where we’ll cover coupling rolling stock, switching tracks, and handling challenging terrain!
